If you’re planning a trip to Soma Bay and considering Amarina Abu Soma Resort, here’s my take after staying at this Red Sea gem. From beautiful beach views to a mix of ups and downs, my experience here had a lot to unpack. Here’s what stood out:
The rooms at Amarina Abu Soma are spacious, clean, and furnished with a sleek, modern style that feels upscale but comfortable. I appreciated the calming color scheme and the attention to detail in the decor. My room had a beautiful view, and it came equipped with a flat-screen TV, minibar, and a cozy seating area. The bathroom was well-maintained and had all the essentials, making it easy to settle in quickly.
However, if you’re sensitive to noise, it’s worth asking for a quieter location, as certain areas near activity spots could get lively.
One area where Amarina Abu Soma Resort fell short was the food. Despite the various on-site restaurants offering an array of cuisines, the dining experience didn’t quite meet expectations.
The main buffet’s options were repetitive, and the overall flavor left something to be desired. While there were a few Egyptian dishes that stood out and added some local flair, the quality and freshness of the food could be improved. Unfortunately, some of the meals felt more like cafeteria-style food than the quality one might expect from a luxury resort.
If you’re into seafood, the resort’s seafood restaurant is something I would not recommend. When I was there, the food was burnt and tasted poorly. I truly hope they changed the chef and cleaned their grill, so everything wouldn’t taste like burnt charcoal.
If food variety and quality are a top priority for your vacation, Amarina might not fully satisfy in this area. However, if you’re okay with a basic dining experience and focus more on the activities or beach, you may find the meals adequate.
One of the resort’s strongest suits is the range of activities it offers. From snorkeling and diving to more adventurous options like windsurfing, there’s something for everyone.
I tried the snorkeling and there was indeed some marine life, but you shouldn’t compare it to other booked trips like going to Orange Bay Island.
On land, there’s rumors about a well-equipped gym and some tennis courts for fitness fans – but I never went there.
The amphitheater is well hidden in the resort and if you didn’t hear the music play in the evening, you would totally think it didn’t exist.
The daily entertainment programs were fun but tended to cater more to families and kids. If you’re looking for a quieter, more serene vibe, it’s best to stick to the beach or maybe spa.
The beach is alright overall, with clear blue water that’s great for swimming and snorkeling.
There are plenty of sunbeds, but getting a prime spot does mean you need to head out early.
Don’t get me wrong, the beach is very small compared to other resorts in Hurghada, but this is a fairly small resort, so it wouldn’t need a large strip of sand.
If you’re someone that enjoys privacy, you won’t get any on the beach: sunbeds are relatively close to eachother.
There’s also a No Kids zone, but it’s tiny and you can still hear kids crying or screaming, since tehy are literally just a couple of meters away.
The pools are equally impressive, especially the main one with its spacious layout, which is inside the resort.
I know at least one of pools in the resort is heated during winter, but not sure which one.
The beach and pool areas both tend to get busy, as the space is not that big, but the staff were good about helping guests find seating when needed.
The staff at Amarina Abu Soma were friendly, and many went out of their way to ensure we had a good experience.
The housekeeping team kept our room spotless, and restaurant servers were attentive without being intrusive.
However, the reception area was occasionally understaffed, which led to longer wait times during check-in and check-out. Overall, though, the staff’s hospitality was a highlight of the stay.
Amarina Abu Soma Resort provides a lovely getaway with a balance of relaxation and activity options. The beautiful beach, extensive activity choices, and comfortable rooms made the stay enjoyable.
While there were a few things that could be improved, like some variety in the food and reducing wait times at reception, the overall experience was positive.
I’d recommend Amarina Abu Soma for anyone seeking a vibrant Red Sea vacation spot with plenty to keep you busy both in and out of the water.
